DVConnect statement on the Bondi Beach attack

As an organisation, DVConnect extends its deepest condolences to all those impacted by yesterday’s Bondi Beach attack.

We know that these impacts will continue to be felt by the families and loved ones of those killed, as well as the broader community.

DVConnect condemns all such acts of violence.  One of our core values is Respect – we are inclusive, treat all people with dignity and equity, and value each other’s contributions.

All people deserve to feel safe, and we stand in solidarity alongside our Jewish Australians and everyone feeling unsafe in the aftermath of the attack. Our Jewish communities have the right to be safe as they join together to celebrate Hanukkah. DVConnect does not tolerate antisemitism.

How to access support

The NSW Government has set up a page for information and support regarding the Bondi Beach attack.

The page includes information on the support available, including mental health support for the public, and Victim Support Services for those personally impacted by the attack.

How to help

The most impactful thing you can do right now is to donate blood. On Sunday evening, Lifeblood (the national blood donation organisation) asked for urgent donations, especially of O negative blood. Donations are being transferred from other states to support the victims in NSW.

To donate blood or plasma, visit lifeblood.com.au, call 13 14 95 or download the free Donate Blood app.

It is common for people to feel overwhelmed or upset after seeing media content of major distressing events, including terrorist attacks. DVConnect encourages people to practice self-care, and reach out for help if you’re struggling to cope. If you are feeling triggered by the news coverage, you may wish to limit your exposure to media.
