Are you in immediate danger?

Call 000 if you are in danger

What to expect when you call

Reaching out for support is an extremely brave thing to do and our team thank you for putting trust in them.

  • Confidential counselling
  • Trained specialists
  • Most calls picked up within 5 mins

You should call us if you are seeking an immediate pathway to safety. If you are in danger, you should call the police on 000.

When you contact us, a team member will answer your call, usually within a few minutes. They will ask a few questions about your situation, including whether you are safe right now.

You will then be transferred to someone who can help you with your specific circumstances.

If you are in a crisis and seeking an immediate pathway to safety:

A specialist crisis counsellor will ask you more questions and complete an intake process with you. If necessary, they will provide you with emergency transport to safety and/or emergency accommodation.

Depending on your needs, the counsellor may help arrange transport to a safe friend or family member’s home, or book emergency accommodation if you have nowhere else to stay. Remember – this service is FREE, and you can bring your children with you.

We may also be able to help keep your pets safe through the Pets in Crisis program. While pets can’t stay in emergency accommodation, the RSPCA can care for them until you are safe and able to have them returned to you.

How long is the wait time?

We’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Someone will answer your call within a few minutes. Depending on your situation, you may be placed on hold briefly.

When speaking with a crisis counsellor, you may be on the phone for up to an hour while we talk through your options and help find a safe place for you to stay. If at any point your situation becomes unsafe, your counsellor will advise you to call 000.

Will DVConnect contact the police?

We work closely with the Queensland Police Service to ensure victim-survivors are safe. However, we also know some people prefer not to involve the police.

You do not have to contact the police to receive help from DVConnect. We will only contact the police if there is risk to you or someone else’s safety.
