DVConnect launches program for victims of violent crime in Queensland

At midnight, DVConnect launched VictimConnect, a brand new program supporting victims of violent crime in Queensland.

VictimConnect is a 24/7 service helping people who have experienced a violent crime such as assault, kidnapping, threats with a weapon, domestic violence (including coercive control), and sexual abuse. The service offers specialist counselling, case management and referral to assist with the impacts of violent crime, including related medical, security, financial, court, Victim Impact Statements, and more.

If you have experienced a violent crime in Queensland, VictimConnect can help. Call 1300 318 940 or visit our website at victimconnect.org.auDVConnect CEO, Beck O’Connor says the new program, in partnership with 54 Reasons, helps to support victims at all stages of their journey to justice and recovery.

“Our deep understanding of systems in Queensland, our strong relationships with our specialist partners, and our expertise in providing trauma-informed specialist counselling will make the journey to justice feel as smooth as possible for people who have experienced a violent crime in Queensland.”

Any person can call VictimConnect days, months, or even years after experiencing a violent crime in Queensland. Parents, family and friends of any child who have experienced a crime can also call to access support and referral onto specialist children’s services.

VictimConnect works alongside specialist services that can assist men who have experienced sexual assault, victims of crime who have intellectual or learning disabilities, children and others going through intensive court processes, as well as homicide support and recovery.

This program transitioned from a previous provider to DVConnect as of July 1, 2022. Victim Assist Queensland provides funding to VictimConnect to support victims of violent crime in Queensland.
